Using Annomuss

These terms govern your use of Annomuss. By using the platform, you agree to them.

Who can use Annomuss

You must be at least 13 years old to use Annomuss. By using this platform, you confirm you meet this age requirement. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or guardian.

What Annomuss is

Annomuss is an anonymous social platform where users share confessions, vents, unsent letters, and connect through random chat. We are committed to keeping the platform safe, honest, and supportive.

Anonymous, not invisible. While your posts are anonymous, Annomuss maintains internal logs for safety and legal compliance. True anonymity cannot be guaranteed if illegal activity is reported to authorities.

What you agree to

You will not post content that is illegal, threatening, harassing, or promotes violence
You will not use Annomuss to bully, stalk, or harm any individual
You will not post sexual content involving minors under any circumstances
You will not attempt to hack, scrape, or disrupt the platform
You will not impersonate other users or create fake identities
You will not use bots or automated tools to interact with the platform
You will not share private information of others without their consent

Content ownership

You own what you post. By posting on Annomuss, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to display and distribute your content on the platform. You can delete your content at any time.

Posts that remain after account deletion stay on the platform anonymously. They cannot be linked back to your identity once your account is deleted.

Moderation and bans

We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms, or to ban accounts that repeatedly break rules. Decisions are made in good faith to keep the community safe.

⚠️ If we receive a valid legal request from law enforcement, we may be required by law to share information. We will comply with Indian law including the IT Act 2000 and DPDP Act 2023.

Disclaimers

Annomuss is provided "as is". We do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We are not responsible for content posted by users. Use the platform at your own risk.

Annomuss is not a crisis service. If you or someone you know is in danger, please contact emergency services immediately.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of Annomuss after changes means you accept the new terms. We will try to notify you of significant changes.

🔒 Privacy Policy

Your Data on Annomuss

We take your privacy seriously. This explains what we collect, why, and your rights under the DPDP Act 2023.

What we collect

📧 Account data

Your email address (used only for OTP login), your anonymous name (randomly assigned), and your chosen avatar emoji.

📝 Content data

Posts, confessions, vents, unsent letters, and comments you create. These are stored anonymously — not linked to your real identity in any public-facing way.

📍 Location data

Your city/state (if you allow location access) — used only for emotion pulse map and local matching. We never store your precise GPS coordinates.

⚡ Usage data

XP earned, mood logs, streak data, and basic activity (posts, chats) — used to power your profile stats and badges. Never sold or shared.

What we do NOT collect

Your real name, phone number, or physical address
Payment information (we don't charge you anything)
Your contacts, photos outside of posts, or device sensors
Your browsing history outside of Annomuss

How we use your data

To provide and improve the platform
To match you in random chat by emotion and location
To show you relevant content in the feed
To detect crisis content and surface helplines
To send you OTP verification emails (nothing else)

We do not sell your data. We do not have ads. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Your data exists only to make Annomuss work for you.

Data retention

Your account data is kept until you delete your account. Posts and vents remain anonymous on the platform after deletion (they cannot be linked back to you). OTP codes expire in 10 minutes. Mood data is kept for 90 days then auto-deleted.

Your rights (DPDP Act 2023)

Right to access — you can request a copy of your data at any time
Right to correction — you can update your profile settings at any time
Right to erasure — you can delete your account from Settings → Security → Delete Account
Right to withdraw consent — you can opt out of location access in your device settings
Right to grievance redressal — email support@annomuss.in within 72 hours for a response

Cookies and storage

We use localStorage (browser storage) to keep you logged in and save your preferences. We do not use third-party tracking cookies. No cookie consent banner needed — we keep it clean.

Third-party services

Cloudinary — stores images and videos you upload (their privacy policy applies)
Resend — sends your OTP emails (they only see your email address)
MongoDB Atlas — hosts our database securely on AWS servers
Render.com — hosts our backend server
Vercel — hosts our frontend

Children's privacy

Annomuss is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 is using our platform, please contact us and we will remove their account promptly.

For privacy concerns or data requests, contact our Grievance Officer at privacy@annomuss.in. We will respond within 72 hours as required by the DPDP Act 2023.

Keeping Annomuss Safe

We care deeply about the mental health and safety of everyone on Annomuss. Here's how we protect our community.

Crisis detection

Annomuss uses AI to detect signs of distress in posts and vents. If our system detects a potential crisis, we surface mental health resources and helpline numbers immediately. This feature exists because we believe one conversation can save a life.

How to report

Every post has a ⋯ menu with a "Report" option. Reports go directly to our moderation team. We review every report within 24 hours and take action where needed.

Content moderation

All posts go through AI safety screening before being published
Content flagged with high confidence is automatically hidden pending review
Users who repeatedly violate community guidelines are banned
Admin dashboard allows our team to review and act on reports

Anonymous, not consequence-free

Being anonymous doesn't mean you can harm others. Harassment, threats, and abuse are taken seriously. We cooperate with law enforcement when required by law. Anonymity protects your identity, not your behaviour.

Blocking and muting

You can block any user from the Social → Discover page. Blocked users cannot see your profile, send you messages, or appear in your feed.
